To add interest and help unify the colors of an image, try additing a gradient map adjustment layer.  Here's how.

An Introduction to UI, With David Seah

(Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Gradient Map) at the top of the layer stack.  The effect will be very strong but it can look better if blend modes are used.  I find that lowering the Opacity of the adjustment layer to around 30% and changing the blend mode to Soft Light produces a nice effect.
